Summary:   This non-paid Volunteer position will support the programs and services of the Women & Children Department, including Labor & Delivery, NICU, Postpartum and Antenatal.  The volunteer will greet visitors in the waiting room and escort family members and other visitors to the patient's room.   Time Commmitment:   Volunteers serve a minimum of one three hour shift weekly, or as needed.                               Qualifications:   Volunteers must be compassionate with good interpersonal skills, and should be able to work independently without direct supervision. Volunteers must be dependable and punctual, as well as sensitive to cultural, language and age differences.

Duties & Responsibilities:

1.    Be available to answer questions about visiting hours, locations of restrooms and dining options.

2.    Escort visitors and other guests to the patient's room.

3.    Complete all necessary paperwork and evaluation forms following the policy and procedures by Eskenazi Health and Family Beginnings.

4.    Perform related duties as assigned.

5.    Must comply with HIPPA standards, policies and procedures of maintaining confidentiality of patient and medical information.

6.    Volunteers are not permitted to:

a.    Position or lift patients in/out of bed, chair or wheelchair.

b.    Transport patients confined to hospital beds.

c.    Communicate clinical information to patients, clients, visitors or family members.

d.    Document clinical information.

e.    Interpret/translate clinical information in another language.


1.    Volunteers must be at least 18 years of age.

2.    Successful completion of the application, interview, hospital volunteer orientation, and position specific departmental training.

3.    Volunteers will be required to submit to criminal background inquiry, national governmental sanction check, child abuse clearance, sexual offender registry clearance and Occupational Health Screening.
