The Midtown Staff Nurse III is responsible for the following essential job functions:

  • Provides professional nursing care to patients in assigned unit/area.
  • Independently functions as a practitioner/role model and receptor providing total patient care; evaluates and initiates change.
  • Evaluates patient care utilizing the nursing process, role modeling/teaching problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Responsible of patient care and nursing practice/process to a group of patients; and clinical practice role model.
  • Evaluates actions to ensure continuity and effectiveness of patient care.
  • Performs the role of Supervisory Nurse and Preceptor; instructs others in these roles.
  • Establishes and revises priority order for patient care and unit activities for self and others under his/her supervision; resource to others regarding care planning.
  • Anticipates/recognizes and intervenes appropriately in situations that place patient/family at risk.
  • Ensures the patient care activities are documented accurately, appropriately; evaluates practices and recommends changes accordingly.
  • Performs advanced technical procedures safely and legally and adapts them to meet circumstances.
  • Administers medications safely and legally.
  • Demonstrates understanding of pharmacology. 
  • Utilizes effective interpersonal communication strategies/skills to achieve desired outcome/results with patients/families and others.
  • Functions effectively as a team leader/member and responds to change in a constructive manner.
  • Considerable walking, standing, lifting/moving of patients.
  • Exposure to communicable diseases and infections.  Risk of injury from lift/moving patients and equipment, injury from combative patients.
  • Alters activities/behaviors to reflect/ensure adequate care appropriate to the age of the patients served (i.e. adolescent, geriatric, pediatric, neo-natal, adult).

  • Minimum of 3 years of mental health nursing experience is required.
  • Prior clinical leadership/supervisory experience is preferred.
  • BSN preferred. 
  • Current Indiana License as Registered Nurse or eligibility for license.
