Job Description

Patient Care:

Provides age appropriate respiratory care in all assigned areas

Delivers respiratory care via assessment, critical thinking, and monitoring, while exercising multi-disciplinary communication

Adheres to all universal precautions

Administers all respiratory care as ordered by physicians

Responds to, and participates in, all emergent situations within the assigned area

Performs all transports for critically ill patients requiring mechanical ventilation

Provides gas administration as prescribed by a physician

Provides appropriate and complete education about respiratory therapy to patients and families

Documentation/Administrative Duties:

Demonstrates effective verbal and written communication skills

Participates in orientation of employees and/or students to the specified area as required

Provides accurate, timely and complete documentation of all patient care administered

Submits accurate and complete charges daily with medical record and patient number as required

Submits requests for time off and time correction electronically in a timely manner

Professional Responsibilities:

Complies with state licensure and practice guidelines

Complies with all organizational policies

Participates in in-services, and continuing education opportunities to remain current in respiratory care

Attends 75% of all departmental meetings

Complies with AARC Statement of Ethics and Professional Conduct

Represents the department in a professional manner

Serves as a resource to co-workers and all disciplines within the organization

Responds to pages and phone calls promptly

Passes all required competencies


Graduate from an AMA approved program for Respiratory Care with a minimum of an Associate Degree in Respiratory Therapy

Licensed as a Respiratory Care Practitioner in the state of Indiana

Credentialed as a Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the NBRC; new graduates will be required to obtain the RRT credential within 12 months from the date of graduation

Current in BLS, ACLS, and organizational required annual education
