Job Description


The Ophthalmic Technician performs imaging of the eye for diagnostic treatment, educational and research purposes in support of the Department of Ophthalmology.  This position is responsible for the entire patient "work up" function for residents and staff physicians, including obtaining accurate patient histories based on chief complaints and/or diagnoses.

The Ophthalmic Technician works in a busy multi-specialty Ophthalmology Clinic, assisting the physician during patient exams, which includes testing. Testing includes Humphrey/Goldman Visual fields, Fundus Photography, Refraction, Biomicroscopy, Visual Acuities, Lensometry, Ascan, Keratometry, and others. This position may also require surgery scheduling and triage duties.


-High school diploma or equivalent (GED)

-Experience as an Ophthalmology Technician preferred

-Minimum of 1 year of experience working in a hospital or patient care environment with public interaction preferred

-Certification for Ophthalmic Assistant by the American Academy of Ophthalmology preferred and must be attained during first year of employment
