The Cook II prepares and serves food to guests according to department recipes and in amounts specified on production sheets.


  • Delivers excellent customer service at all times and communicates in a professional and courteous manner with guests, hospital staff and coworkers
  • Prepares and serves food to guests according to department recipes and in amounts specified on production sheets
  • Exhibits mastery of all the skills associated with successfully working in at least one of the following areas: grill, room service, catering, Café Soleil line
  • Responsible for knowledge of and monitoring proper food temperatures in assigned area
  • Monitors food items for defects, such as irregularities in odor, color or taste and reports to supervisor
  • Maintains appropriate sanitation levels in the work area in compliance with the food code (proper labeling, FIFO and hand washing and glove use)
  • Follows proper safety procedures when handling kitchen equipment
  • Completes side work at the beginning and end of shift as assigned including but not limited to cleaning duties, food prep and stocking
  • Works as a team member to provide the most efficient service to guests
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned


  • Relieves other food service personnel for smooth operation of department as assigned
  • Attends in-service and completes E-Learnings as assigned


  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED) required or must obtain within 6 month after  employment
  • Successful completion of a culinary training or certificate program is preferred
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience in hospitality or other related field


  • Ability to read, write and understand English

  • Ability to work as part of a team and build positive relationships
  • Demonstrates proper use of equipment
  • Follows infection control policies and procedures
  • Knowledge of safe food handling practices
  • Ability to handle complaints professionally
  • Ability to communicate effectively in a professional, courteous manner with food service personnel and other hospital staff


  • Maintains patient and family confidentiality
  • Maintains protected health information in accordance with HIPAA privacy guidelines and regulations


Incumbent may work under close supervision following established routines or assigned work with limited employee latitude


  • Daily contacts with intra departmental personnel, hospital employees, families, volunteers and visitors for food service
  • External contacts through department representation


  • Standing, lifting, bending, stooping, pushing, pulling and twisting
  • Occasional pushing, pulling, lifting or carrying up to 40 lbs
  • Constant talking, expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word
  • Occasional distinguishing, with a degree of accuracy, differences or similarities in intensity or quality of flavors and/or odors 
  • Constant clarity of vision at near and/or far distances
  • Reports all hazardous conditions/equipment to manager
  • Maintains a friendly, respectful, helpful attitude towards patients, visitors, staff and volunteers


  • Restaurant, production kitchen, varied food service operations

May be required to attend meetings or perform work remote from clinic or hospital campus
