Eskenazi Health serves as the public hospital division of the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County. Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 315-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus as well as at 10 Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Clinical Pharmacy Technician ensures constant state of readiness for TJC, DEA, Board of Pharmacy, Department of Health, Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP) and all other regulatory bodies; suggests and implements process improvement that can be duplicated throughout the department to assist all in maintaining a constant state of readiness.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Maintains professional attitude and appearance at all times
  • Obtains medication histories for assigned patients/areas and documents information in appropriate systems
  • Performs the following technical skills:
  • Refers all clinical questions to a pharmacist
  • Understands and consistently utilizes all information systems including, but not limited to, PICASO, RxExpress, G3, EMR, Share Point, Kronos, etc.
  • Alters behaviors/activities to reflect/ensure adequate care appropriate to age of patient served
  • Resolves crisis situations in a calm, constructive, and professional manner and is able to assist others in obtaining positive crisis resolution outcomes
  • Maintains a clean, neat, and professional work area at all times
  • Offers and implements suggestions to improve workflow; maintains efficient workflow by analyzing and adapting to changes in volume and utilizes downtime efficiently
  • Works with a sense of urgency to assist patients and encourages the same sense of urgency in others
  • Consistently completes all tasks in assigned area(s)
  • Consistently and accurately enters information/documentation into computer system
  • Understands and consistently utilizes all existing technology in the department
  • Performs the following regulatory compliance responsibilities:
  • Ensures constant state of readiness for TJC, DEA, Board of Pharmacy, Department of Health, Institute for Safe Medication Practices (ISMP), and all other regulatory bodies; suggests and implements process improvement that can be duplicated throughout the department to assist all in maintaining a constant state of readiness
  • Consistently compliant with all hospital and departmental policies and procedures
  • Attends all-staff and area staff meetings
  • Completes all required educational activities and competencies in a timely manner
  • Displays attention to detail in all work
  • Independently gathers and organizes data related to job responsibilities as requested by departmental management or other pharmacy staff on a regular basis

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Completion of a high school education or equivalent (GED)
  • Successful completion of an Indiana State Board of Pharmacy Certified Pharmacy Technician Program or one year related Certified Pharmacy Technician experience
  • Successful completion of EH Pharmacy Training program within 122-day probationary period
  • Registration with the Health Professions Bureau as a Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Technician-in-Training
  • Must pass pre-employment math test
  • Participates in continuing education activities and in the activities of local, state and national pharmaceutical associations
  • Performance of duties according to established Practice Standards
  • Successful completion of PTCB exam is preferred
