Eskenazi Health serves as the public hospital division of the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County. Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 327-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus as well as at 10 Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.
Job Role SummaryThe Registrar often serves as the first contact patients have with the system. The Registrar adapts activities/behaviors to reflect and ensure adequate service appropriate to the age of the patients served (i.e. neonatal, infant, pediatric, preschool, school-age and adolescent, and adult and geriatric). This role also performs a variety of clerical and patient service duties necessary to maintain efficient flow of operations in the clinic/hospital/office setting.
Essential Functions and ResponsibilitiesRegister and check-in patients validating demographic informationCollect pre-pays and co-paysReconcile the cash bag dailyCheck-in patients and load insurance in the correct priority for billingIdentify the network patient belongs to and enter correct plan codeMatch, file and retrieve from an alphabetical and numerical systemEstablish priorities and meet deadlines, follow written and verbal instructionsScan or copy the insurance cards and photo IDDirect patients to financial counselors when no payer identified and/or patient has outstanding balanceInform patient and/or family of the patient obligation policyDetermine if reason for visit is work relatedAccountability for accuracy of data collected and entered into systemsElectronically verify patient's insurance eligibility and benefits via KramerUtilize Kramer system to verify address given by patientUtilize Kramer RQi to perform essential job functions
Job RequirementsMinimum of one (1) year of experience in business, office management or health information management. High school diploma or equivalent (GED) plus post-secondary education courses; or certifications in business, computers, or Office Management. Associate's degree preferred
- Must pass pre-employment screening test
- Must complete outpatient registration program and pass the exam with a score of 90% or higher
- Must pass annual competency exams as required
- Must maintain 95% accuracy on registration data audits
