Job Role Summary

The Patient Care Technician – Primary Care    is responsible for providing a variety of services to patients and families in support of the assigned unit as part of the patient care team under the supervision of the RN.



Essential Functions and Responsibilities

•    Provides for various patient needs in support of the patient care team: takes vital signs, pain assessment, measures patients’ weight and height, performs EKGs, conducts point of care testing, review of medication list, collection of lab specimens,  implementation of Eskenazi Model of Excellence (EME) tools to assist with patient throughput
•    Helps maintain clinic flow; maintains a safe patient/clinic environment and ensures practice is in compliance with Eskenazi’s safety standards; Demonstrates good communication skills using appropriate medical terminology
•    Completes appropriate area-specific documentation in EPIC to include vital sign flow sheet, use of pain scale, screening, Point of care test results,  all information collected during rooming activity; cleans rooms after each patient exam; answers phones/makes phone calls as needed/directed; operates standard office equipment; schedules appointments; maintains supplies and equipment (stocking/ordering) including routine stocking of exam rooms
•    Assists in maintaining a constant state of regulatory readiness and maintaining an organized and clean environment, reports needed equipment repairs, replenishes supplies in areas as needed, sets up and performs a variety of clerical duties
•    Participates in Health Center based efforts to support positive patient experiences such as rounding, use of communication boards, quality best practices, EME tools and other best-practice communication techniques as assigned
 



Job Requirements

•    High school diploma or equivalent
•    Basic Life Support (BLS) certification
•    Previous patient care experience preferred

•    Ability to perform basic computer skills including use of an electronic medical record
•    Ability to communicate effectively and work well under stress
•    Ability to successfully complete all required training both on-the-job and via elearning
•    Ability to prioritize duties and utilize critical thinking skills
•    Ability to maintain strong customer service skills at all times
