Eskenazi Health serves as the public hospital division of the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County. Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 315-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus as well as at 10 Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.

JOB SUMMARY:

The Outpatient Clinical Dietitian II proactively contributes to Eskenazi Health’s mission to Advocate, Care, Teach, and Serve with special emphasis on the vulnerable population of Marion County. The Outpatient Clinical Dietitian II serves as a nutrition expert and contributing member of the healthcare team by providing patient focused medical nutrition therapy, education and care management. This position provides nutrition care in a variety of settings, including but not limited to the outpatient clinical health centers, public outreach clinics, and community-based (e.g. schools, churches) settings.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Provides patient-centered medical nutrition therapy using the Nutrition Care Process (NCP): evaluates the nutritional status of the patient; develops care plans following the established standards of care; provides nutrition counseling to patients and their families that is age-specific, cultural, religious and ethnically sensitive for health and disease promotion/prevention and wellness; monitors in accordance with the patient’s treatment goals
  • Coordinates care between visits with the patient and health care team in order to update the plan of care; refers patients for community or home health services as appropriate and documents these in the patient’s electronic health record (EHR)
  • Maintains accuracy in documentation, including NCP format, charge entry and reimbursement standards, along with scheduling and referral management; meets established productivity metrics and assigned deadlines
  • Utilizes prescriptive authority within the regulations of the institution and legislative bodies to order diets, supplements, enteral nutrition and approved supplies
  • Educates consumers and professional audiences by incorporating a variety of learning strategies, behavioral and readiness change techniques, learning principles, and culturally and literacy sensitive educational media tailored for the client
  • Participates in multidisciplinary teams, clinics, dietitian team meetings and case conferences
  • Contributes to the advancement of nutrition through advocacy and committee participation
  • Serves as a mentor for dietetic interns, students and new staff during the orientation process
  • Coordinates nutritional programming needs at site; recruits appropriate participants; implements programs and delivers content; coordinates multidisciplinary support post program; assists with tracking outcomes for nutrition-based programs
  • Leads and organizes participation and involvement in at least one clinical, community or professional development activity annually (as approved by leadership)
  • Performs outcomes, evaluation and research activities by monitoring and evaluating the effectiveness of the nutrition care provided and by reporting results
  • Translates research findings into meaningful language and concepts, resulting in the utilization of outcome data
  • Participates in the revision of outpatient nutrition-related policies, procedures and educational materials; develops marketing material for nutrition programming and classes; develops clinical forms and protocols; implements newest available evidence-based practice, and available organizational guidelines

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Registered Dietitian with active registration, including continuing education,  by the Commission on Dietetic Registration of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics
  • Certified Dietitian in the state of Indiana
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred
  • Master’s Degree or additional certification strongly preferred
  • Three years of experience as a Registered Dietitian required
