Physicians provide a comprehensive range of primary and specialty care services at the 327-bed hospital and outpatient facilities both on and off of the Eskenazi Health downtown campus as well as at 10 Eskenazi Health Center sites located throughout Indianapolis.

Job Role Summary

The Director of Compliance Effectiveness is responsible for developing and maintaining the organization-wide risk assessment plan. This individual leads the overall direction and leadership of the internal audit function for the organization and plans and conducts operational and compliance audits to evaluate the effectiveness of internal controls and organizational risk.  This position supports the Board of Directors’ Audit and Compliance Committee and senior leadership in fulfilling their oversight roles by providing independent assessments of the organization’s risk management and internal control environment, and by providing advice to management in developing control solutions. 

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Promotes a culture of compliance across the system including education and training, serving as a compliance expert resource, and providing direction and assistance to compliance team members as needed.
  • Develops the overall risk assessment plan to support the company’s objectives and governance policies.
  • Understands the risk profile of the organization and develops and maintains a risk-based audit plan including tracking audit findings through completion of the corrective action plans.
  • Drives the execution of risk-based audit plans, and conduct audits to assess controls, operational efficiencies and compliance with selected policies, procedures and regulations.
  • Increases communications with a broader scope of stakeholders: Develop strong relationships and partner with senior management across the organization, leading discussions and projects to identify and mitigate risks in their environment.
  • Communicates findings in a timely manner, obtaining management’s agreement on root cause of issues and commitment to implement recommendations and/or remediation plans.
  • Reports status and findings of the annual audit plan to Board of Directors’ Audit and Compliance Committee to insure its compliance oversight responsibility is fulfilled. 
  • Manage and grow a talented team of professionals.
  • Provides education, training and resources for management and employees to facilitate integration of compliance into day-to-day operations by providing education about internal controls, risk mitigation and other applicable strategies to achieve compliance effectiveness.

Job Requirements

  • Master’s in Health Care Administration, Business, Accounting or closely related field with 4 years directly related experience required.  
  • In lieu of Master’s, must have Bachelor’s with a minimum of 6 years’ experience in compliance auditing, internal controls, or related field.
  • A minimum of 5 years in a hospital or health care system environment with role in internal audit and compliance function strongly preferred.
  • Leadership/Supervisory experience strongly preferred
